101 Ways to STOP eating after dinner

No eating past 7pm has been very helpful in following the No S Diet. Although it is not a requirement, I have added it as an extra "S" to my regimen. This book is a great help to those that may have difficulty saying "no" to food after dinner. I included the back of the book in the photo so you may get a better idea what is inside.

(A small excerpt)...

Affirmations can be gentle and nurturing, strong and positive, or tough---whatever works for you:
* One day at a time
* My body is a temple.
* Just do it!
* Think before you eat.
* Is it really worth it?
* Do you really want to look like the Goodyear blimp for the rest of your life?

Salmon Delight

ALDI'S sells pre-packaged Wild Caught Salmon Fillets that make a very nice No S Diet supper.
I just pop it in the microwave for 4 minutes with a little soy sauce sprinkled on top and lay that on top of a nice bed of lettuce/greens with feta cheese crumbles. Nothing could be simpler!

My Weekend Weakness

I just found out that there are 10 gumdrops in a single serving of gumdrops. The GOOD NEWS is that knowledge made me feel so much better about my weekend "S" day eating. The BAD NEWS is that even though I didn't have more than 10 gumdrops, I ate the ones I had with reckless abandon. I didn't savor the flavor and texture of each one. My goal next weekend, should I be around these delicious little candies will be to make it a point to slow down! Hey, that could be another "S" on my No S Diet! - - - - - "SAVOR SLOWLY"

Toss the scale?

Do you regularly step on the scale? Has a daily weigh-in helped you maintain or lose weight? I have found that even though I may not have lost weight during certain weeks, that if I follow the No S Diet and do my daily walk I lose inches. I haven't totally tossed my scale yet, but I try not to weigh myself more than once a week. No S Dieter, "Blueskighs" has an interesting post on her blog about this also!

Strange Combo Supper

Tonight's supper was a little strange. I made baked pasta/sugo for the family, so I had to make sure I saved a place for some of that on my plate. I also had a salad with - GET THIS - blue cheese, gargonzola, and feta cheese crumbles. I added a little plain yogurt with sweetener for my protein and a handful of grapes to top it off. All in all, it was a very satisfying meal. :)

Today's "S" Day

I was very fortunate today in that the luncheon I went to served a very healthy and hearty chicken salad with raspberry vinagrette dressing. It was soooo good! My treats today were a piece of cake, one cookie, some nuts and of course the butter mints on the table! Delish!

"Alaskan" Summer Seafood Salad

I have found the Alaskan Ulu to be a very helpful No S Diet tool. The plate on the left is my salad before I chopped it all up.

  • Grapes
  • Lettuce
  • Crab Sticks
  • Mixed Veggies
  • Tortilla Wedges
  • Blue Cheese Crumbles
The Ulu is quick and easy, but be careful as it can be also very sharp. Has anyone else used an Ulu?

Fit & Active Fruit

Looking for a delicious and nutritious No S Diet Breakfast? Look no further! As mentioned in one of my previous posts, my favorite breakfast meals include Fit & Active Fruit. I usually find it in the frozen foods section at ALDI'S. I pour myself a bowl and microwave it for a quick 3 minutes. It's the perfect complement to steel-cut oats topped with crunchy pecans! YUM!

Just for today I will....

Have you ever found yourself in a situation in which you were "confronted" with breaking a No "S" day and started panicking? It is at that time that it is important to KEEP CALM. It is never one cookie or one slice of cake that has put on the added pounds. It is more than likely because half of the cake was eaten or a whole box of cookies was snacked on. Breaking a No "S" day and accepting the one cookie someone has offered you is not the end of the world. You are not a failure and your whole day is not "shot". Carry on. Life is good and tomorrow is another day!

Out of this World!

Habits

Helpful Hint to Curb Your Hunger

A number of No S Dieters have recommended using H2Orange to help curb hunger and the urge to snack. It is recommended to use the cartons of already mixed OJ instead of the concentrate as shown in the photo. Mix 7 parts water with 1 part OJ. Add sweetener to taste. Sipping on this drink will help keep your blood sugar slightly elevated and should eliminate the desire to snack. It's a great afternoon pick-me-up, too!

Words for the Wise

Tuesday's Reuben Delight

Today was a real treat! We had company come from out of town and all of us enjoyed a delicious lunch at a popular German restaurant in town. Of course, I had to try their famous reuben sandwich. It was absolutely out of this world! Being on the No S Diet allowed me the freedom and luxury of partaking in this delicious meal. I ate enough to be satisfied and then took about 1/4 of the sandwich home for supper. This is one leftover I'm going to look forward to!

21 DAY AWARD

It is often said that it takes 21 days to form a habit. Have YOU followed the No S Diet for 21 Days? If so, then you qualify for the blue ribbon! You can put it on your blog, website or frame it if you'd like! YOU DESERVE IT! (Click on ribbon to enlarge.)

A Hashbrown Revelation

As I was thinking back to this past weekend and the No S Diet I was surprised to learn something new about the benefits of following this particular way of eating. When we were out to breakfast on my "S" Sunday, the waitress asked me if I wanted hashbrowns with my breakfast. Normally I will decline and substitute fruit. What a bummer that is because I absolutely LOVE hashbrowns with catsup on them. Well, now that I am on the No S Diet, I realized I CAN order hashbrowns and enjoy every bite! So that is what I did. And I didn't feel guilty at all! That's the best part. There will be times in the future when I'm sure I will order fruit instead of hashbrowns, but it's not going to be because of guilt that I do it! It will be because I really want the fruit! :)

Monday's "Mock Tuna Salad"

If you like garbanzo beans (chick peas) you'll probably like this recipe. Chickpeas are a helpful source of zinc, folate and protein. They are also very high in dietary fiber and low in fat.
Don't be surprised if this particular recipe doesn't taste at all like tuna salad. I put a cup of this on a bed of lettuce and drizzled some low fat ranch dressing on top. Fresh cut zucchini's are always a nice addition and the grapes seem to satisfy my sweet-tooth too!

How were YOUR "S" days?

How were YOUR "S" days? Did you
treat yourself to anything special?

Guilt Free and Lovin' It!

One of the best things I like about the No S Diet is that I can indulge my sweet tooth on "S" days. This doesn't mean that I have permission to go CRAZY, but I can enjoy a handful of this or that without feeling guilty. These particular sweets "came across my path" today, and I didn't have to say no to them. HOW GREAT IS THAT?

Change of Plans (Guilt Free!)

I hope I'm not making y'all hungry with all these food pictures, but there was a slight change of plans in tonight's birthday festivities. We decided to go to Texas Roadhouse instead of out for pizza.
A perfect way to celebrate my husband's birthday and my "S" day! The "S"almon was to die for and if you've ever been to Texas Roadhouse, you already know how tasty their hot buns with the honey butter are. The best part is that I didn't feel guilty at all by partaking in this delicious meal. It's not only a No S Diet, but also a No "G" Diet. (No Guilt!)

Happy "S" Day!

Today is actually a DOUBLE "S" Day! It's not only Saturday, but also my husband's birthday! We will be going out for pizza tonight and of course light up the candles on his birthday cake. (I won't tell you how many!) I'm looking forward to having my single serving of delicious Italian pizza and savoring the taste of a piece of his cake. It should be fun! Happy "S" Day everyone! ENJOY!
P.S. What are YOU going to enjoy on your "S" day?

Shhhhh.....It's Top Secret!

Many times I like to have a small salad for supper. I'll usually make sure there is some protein in the salad, but I''m well aware that my taste buds usually crave something more satisfying for a supper. I find that a small bowl (1/3 c.) of bran buds does the trick. These buds satisfy MY buds! And when my buds are happy, everybody's happy! (Click on image to enlarge!)

A Great Way to Start the Day!

It's not an "S" day yet!

A BIG THUMBS UP ON THIS ONE!

McCann's Steel-cut Oats is one of my favorite breakfasts on the No S Diet. It is so satisfying and holds me until my next meal. I love to add raisins and prunes while it is cooking, and then I toss in walnuts or pecans before I serve it to myself. What a special treat! I make four servings so I can have some the following days also. It's even tasty when it's cold. Look for it at your local grocery store. What is YOUR favorite breakfast food?

What makes McCann's Steel-cut Oats so special? (Taken from their website)

Grains are essential to a healthy lifestyle and form the foundation of the food pyramid. Steel-Cut oats are inherently full of nutritional value and are high in B-Vitamins, calcium, protein and fiber while low in salt and unsaturated fat. One cup of Steel-Cut oatmeal contains more fiber than a bran muffin and twice as much fibre as Cream of Wheat. The quality of Irish Oats and the distinctive crunchy texture make McCann's Steel-Cuts a gourmet delight.

Why I added one more "S"!

In the past couple months, I have been diagnosed with mild acid reflux. (GERD) I came to realize that I slept much better at night if I didn't eat past 7pm. This fits right into the No S Diet. (S-even O'Clock) No eating past 7! What's great about No S Dieting is the freedom to tweak whatever works best for me! My hope is that after getting down to my ideal weight the GERD will go away. :)

What are FREEDOM BROWNIES?

One of the advantages of No S Dieting is that I now have FREEDOM to bake without worrying that I'd eat half the batch! If it's not an "S" day, I don't even get a taste! I LOVE it! I know that come Saturday I can have some, and more than likely by that time they will be all eaten by someone else anyways. Like I said, "I LOVE IT!"

This dish was De-LISH!

We ate brunch at our favorite diner today and this wonderful veggie burrito caught my eye on the menu. It was so filling that I only ate half of it. I ate about a quarter of the potatoes and gave the rest to my husband. I think I'll have the other half of the burrito for supper tonight. What I really like about the No S Diet is that I can order what I want from the menu now and not feel deprived. It's a very satisfying way to eat and I find I enjoy the food I do eat so much more! (Click on image to enlarge! Can't you almost smell the delicious aroma?)

Crab Salad Lunch

INGREDIENTS
Crab Meat (Suremi) -2 sticks
Zucchini
Lettuce/Carrots/Cabbage Salad (Pre-packaged)
Red Grapes
Gargonzola Cheese
Bacon Bits
Low Fat Ranch Dressing
1 Flour Tortilla

This salad was so tasty that I actually made one to eat for supper also. (Except I didn't add the crab.) For some reason I love the texture of the tortilla with the salad. I look at it as my treat with the meal. The Gargonzola adds a little bite. I use the bacon bits very sparingly, but they add much extra flavor to the salad also.

My No S Diet Journey Begins

Last night I found a great blog Blueskighs posted about the No S Diet. That gave me the inspiration to start my own. I officially started the No S Diet on June 27 and have been keeping a food diary using the POCKETMOD. (That has been my own addition to the No S Diet. It is not required.) My weight had climbed to #145 and since I am only 5'4", that's a little too much for me. On July 18th I will have been on the No S Diet for 3 full weeks. My weight is presently at #138-139. I'd like to get down to #125-130. I'm confident knowing that my goal is attainable and sustainable on the No S Diet!
